Tips, Tricks and How to Guides

Tips for maintaining your bicycle at home

Keep it Clean

Dirt and grime can build up and cause damage to the moving parts, so give your bike a wash regularly. Use a soft-bristle brush and a bike wash to clean the frame and other parts of the bike, making sure to wash off thoroughly.

Lubricate

To keep your bicycle running smoothly, you will need to lubricate moving parts. Apply a small amount of bicycle lubricant to the chain (one drop per roller), derailleurs, and any other moving parts. It is important to lubricate your bike after being washed and dried. Be careful to not use too much an avoid contact with all braking surfaces.

Keep it Pumped

Bike tires are one of your bikes most crucial parts. Check your tyre pressure once a week and keep them inflated to the recommended level which is stamped on the side wall of your tire. If the tire is not inflated to the correct pressure you may find you are getting flat tires more frequently. If the tread is worn down, you are more likely to have less traction and it increases your chance for flats and punctures. Look for any cuts, bulges and other issues and replace if needed.
