Bar Ends

Bar ends were initially designed for mountain bikes, so that the riders weight could be distributed more over the front of the bike during climbing and help the front wheel stay on the ground.  The off shoot of this was that a different hand holding position has evolved and bar ends let riders change positions when their hands are getting sore from an extended tim in the one position.
